Confidence that HR will be a real growth enabler in FY2026-27 averages 7.97 out of 10, with more than two in three respondents scoring 8 or higher. CEO trust and access rates 4.32 out of 5, the highest-scoring statement in the survey, while HR’s own analytics capability rates 3.32, the lowest. Only 14% of HR functions run an integrated talent strategy covering three to five years, and only 32.5% have a board-reviewed succession plan for their top three leadership levels. Digital, technology, and AI capability is the leading skills gap in all six sectors, reaching 100% in Financial Services and 90% in Professional Services. Asked why HR has not reached its own target maturity, 41% name their functional comfort zone and 39% name insufficient commercial depth, both ahead of any external constraint.

Confidence that HR will be a real growth enabler averages 7.97 out of 10, with more than two in three respondents scoring 8 or higher. That confidence rests on a relationship HR has spent years building, with CEO trust and access scoring 4.32 out of 5, the highest-rated statement in the survey. The lowest, at 3.32, is HR’s own analytics capability, which is the widest gap in the study and the clearest indication of where the work now sits.
Beneath the confidence, the planning horizon has not kept pace with the growth agenda. Nearly three in four organisations are scaling existing businesses organically, yet only 14% of HR functions run an integrated talent strategy covering three to five years, and only 32.5% have a board-reviewed succession plan for their top three leadership levels. Digital, technology, and AI capability is the leading skills gap in all six sectors covered, reaching 100% in Financial Services.
The report sets out sector-by-sector findings, the full national topline on growth, talent, and capability, and what the data means for boards, CEOs, and CHROs.
