This June Ernst&Young and Forbes Magazine organized the annual CFO FORUM in Sofia, Bulgaria. Darina Peneva, the Managing Director of Stanton Chase Bulgaria, was invited to talk about the senior financial function. CFO FORUM 2015 seeks to support and develop the financial leaders’ community; to provide insight and guidance on aspects of interest to CFOs and future finance leaders as they seek to develop themselves, their teams and learn from others within their community.
Darina shared information regarding the following key topics:
> main factors for the success of top executives in Bulgaria nowadays
> development of finance management roles within the last few years
> new competences required from CFOs by the business and by their superiors?
> possible next roles for a CFO/Finance Director
> main challenges for a Finance Manager in attracting and retaining young professionals with accounting and finance expertise
Mrs. Peneva’s participation included live voting among the attendants. It turned out that 41,6 % of them started their career as Accountants, 18% as Auditors, 15,7% as Financial Analysts. Almost one third of the participants in the forum were at the position of CFO in their companies (31,8%). Representatives of other financial positions took up to 43,2%, including Finance Managers (14,8%). In terms of considered next career steps, participants pointed out Regional CFO/Finance Manager positions (25,8%) and CEO/GM positions (20,2%). As new requirements for CFOs were identified the following: knowledge of the business model of the company (25%), leadership skills (22,5%) and entrepreneurial mindset (17,5).
