Dr. Kevin Whitaker
Dr. Kevin Whitaker is an Advisory Director for the Birmingham office of Stanton Chase. He served the University of Alabama as Executive Vice President and Provost beginning in 2017 until his retirement in August 2020. Prior to that he served as Interim Provost from 2015 to 2016 and Associate Provost for Academic Affairs from 2014 to 2015. He was appointed Associate Dean for Academic Programs within the UA College of Engineering in 2000 and held that position until 2014. In each of these administrative positions he provided leadership in numerous academic, accreditation, and faculty matters.
Kevin also served as the University of Alabama’s Faculty Athletics Representative from 2011 to 2015, an appointed position reporting to the university president. He was charged with providing faculty oversight in the governance of the UA athletics program, maintaining the appropriate balance between academics and intercollegiate athletics, and representing the UA faculty in relationships with the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference.
Upon his retirement, Kevin was a member of the UA Aerospace Engineering faculty for over 33 years. His professional research interests are in the areas of propulsion system optimization and hypersonic aerodynamics. He is also active in educational research and curriculum reform.
Kevin obtained his B.Sc. in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, an M.Sc. in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M, and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering also from Texas A&M University.
