What Distinguishes Entrepreneurs from Executives?

“Before we look we listen – meanwhile executive searchers from Stanton Chase Zurich have been listening to their customers for more than 20 years,” said Zurich Managing Partner Lucas Schellenberg in his welcome address to 100 customers, partners and friends at the 20th anniversary party. The Swiss provider of «executive search for entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs» works bureaucracy-free and maintains a distinctive international network. “We are proud to represent the Stanton Chase corporate identity here in Zurich, with an emphasis on acting and being perceived as ‘entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs’. We embody ‘Swissness’ and we guarantee to each customer that a partner will look after him personally,” Lucas explained.

Keynote speaker Markus Moser is the founder and CEO of Prionics, which developed the first mad cow disease test in 1997 and won the Swiss Economic Award in 2002, as well the European Biotech Award in 2004. “It would be easy for me as an entrepreneur to play the popular game of executive bashing,” said Mr. Moser, elaborating “what distinguishes entrepreneurs from executives” in a differentiated way. To own a big share of a company will not explain the difference between good and bad leadership in any case. “I know about short-term oriented and greedy executives as well as some short-term oriented and greedy shareholders,” Mr. Moser explained, adding that long-term oriented goals and good citizenship might be easier for leaders of owner-operated businesses, but it’s still possible to find executives that need neither bonus, nor stock options to show a good performance; intrinsic motivation and a fair salary will do.
